Couple Sues Over Wrongful Death Of Toddler

The Seattle Times - September 30, 2015

A Seattle couple is suing Redmond Town Center after a number of safety violations in the children's play area led to the death of their 2-year-old daughter. The lawsuit is alleging negligence on the part of the Town Center along with failure to provide a safe play environment for children.

The 2-year-old girl, Susie Dreher, was killed after she ran into the street to play in a fountain outside of the children's "Sensory Garden" in the Town Center plaza. The "Sensory Garden", designed for preschoolers, lacks any gate or fence to enclose it. Additionally, overgrown bushes and partially hidden warning signs fail to alert oncoming traffic to the fact that there is a children's play area nearby and to drive cautiously. As a result, the toddler was hit by a car and killed at the scene.
