StarTribune - October 14, 2015
The estate of a woman from Ashland, Oregon is pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit against the company of a Murphy bed.
The victim, 76-year-old Penelope Martens, was sleeping in the fold-up Murphy bed when the frame of the bed suddenly pulled away from the wall. The frame struck Martens in the head and then the frame and mattress folded up and locked in the closed position. Martens, who was trapped between the mattress and the wall, eventually died as the result of her injuries and entrapment.
According to the lawsuit, the estate is seeking $850,000 in compensation from the manufacturer of the bed as well as the company responsible for its installation.
