Complaints Filed Against Manufacturer of Men’s Hair Product Due to Severe Reactions

Since 2012, more than 400 complaints have been filed with Consumer Affairs against the manufacturer of “Just For Men”, the popular hair and beard dye product that helps men eliminate grey hair. The complaints allege that an ingredient in the product called p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) caused severe skin burns and other allergic reactions in users.

In addition to severe skin reactions, use of the product has allegedly led to dermatitis, vitiligo, convulsions, kidney failure, and other reactions among consumers, some of which were hospitalized or experienced severe infections and scarring. Reactions have been most common in African American men, who are five times more likely than men with fair hair to experience reactions caused by PPD.
